Guide to Generating Videos in Subject Mode
Learn how to use Video Generator's Subject mode to create AI videos featuring your own characters. This guide covers image upload, prompting, and more.
What is Subject mode?
Subject mode is a specialized mode within the Video Generator, powered by the MiniMax Video 01 Subject-to-Video (also called Subject Reference), designed for character-focused video creation. This innovative feature enables you to transform any character from a still image into the protagonist of a dynamic 5-second video sequence.
Whether you're working with original artwork, photographs, or digital characters, this Video Generator mode is ideal for creating character-focused content such as animated avatars, promotional videos featuring mascots, or dynamic social media content.
How to Generate Videos with AI in Subject Mode?
Step 1. Select Subject Mode
Open the Video Generator and choose the Subject mode to begin.
Step 2. Write a Prompt
Your text prompt should describe the scene and actions of your character. Be specific about:
What is your character doing (e.g., "riding a bicycle," "giving a speech," "fighting a dragon")?
The surrounding environment (e.g., "a futuristic city," "a dense jungle," "a royal palace").
Mood, lighting, angle, and all the other technical details.

Note that the video's aspect ratio will adapt to match the character image you uploaded.
Step 3. Upload an Image
This mode requires an image upload; you can’t use only a text prompt. Choose a picture from your device or select one from your getimg.ai Gallery.
Provide a clear image of the character you want to feature in your video. This image must contain only one character, with no other people present.
Step 4. (Optional) Generate a Soundtrack
If you wish, enhance your video with an AI-generated soundtrack by checking the "Generate soundtrack" option.
Step 5. Generate Your Video
Click "Generate video" to start the generation process. You can watch and download your clip once it's finished.
And that's it. You've got the knowledge; now put it into practice!
