Guide to using Video Generator

Learn how to turn text and static images into dynamic 5-second clips with our Video Generator tool. Simple steps, stunning results—no experience required!

Step 1. Open the Video Generator and Choose the Mode

You’ve got two creative paths to choose from:

  • Text to Video: describe your scene with a prompt—no image required.

Tip:

Read our dedicated Text to Video guide for a more in-depth walkthrough of this mode.

  • Image to Video: upload a starting image and guide the animation with a prompt.

Tip:

Take a look at our detailed Image to Video guide for more tips specific to this mode.

Next, choose the model you want to use. Some models are available in both modes, others are Text or Image to Video-only.

Note:

Check out our Video Generator models guide to learn the differences between different solutions regarding resolution, clip length, and more.

Step 2. Write a Prompt

No matter the mode, the prompt is your storyboard. Great prompts = great results. Here’s what to include:

  • Main subject – what or who are we watching?

  • Scene and setting – where, and when, is it happening?

  • Actions – what’s going on? Who’s doing what?

  • Camera movement – describe pans, zooms, tracking shots, etc.

  • Visual style & mood – colors, lighting, emotional tone.

  • Text to Image's MiniMax 01 Director model: add camera movement (Truck left/right, Pan left/right, Push in/Pull out, Pedestal up/down, Tilt up/down, Zoom in/out, Shake, Tracking shot, Static shot) by choosing it from the options below the prompt box. You can choose a maximum of three camera actions per video. Check out our MiniMax 01 Director guide for more details.

Note:

Check out our Video Generator prompting guide for more useful tips!

Step 3. Upload an Image (Conditional)

If you choose the Image to Video mode, you need to upload an image:

  • Most models: your image becomes the first frame of the generated clip.

  • Hailuo MiniMax 01 Subject model: the image serves as a reference for how the character in the video should look.

Tip:

Take a look at our guide to generating videos with MiniMax 01 Subject model for more details.

  • Runway Gen-3 and Kling 1.6 Pro: you can upload both the first and final frame—useful for controlling start and end visuals.

Upload an image from your device, or choose a picture from your getimg.ai Gallery or the AI Generator.

Step 4. Set Video Parameters

Tweak the core settings before generating your clip:

  • Duration – typically 5–10 seconds, depending on the model

  • Aspect ratio – go cinematic (16:9), vertical (9:16), or square (1:1)

  • Resolution – usually 720p, varies by model.

In both modes and with every model, you can automatically generate a soundtrack for your video.

To do so, simply check the box next to "Generate soundtrack."

The audio will be created based on the generated video content and your prompt, providing a fitting musical accompaniment to the events in the clip.

Step 5. Generate Video

You're ready to create!

Click the "Generate video" button and wait for the generation process to finish. Once it’s complete, you can download the video to your device.
