Guide to using Image to Video in Video Generator

Learn how to turn an image into a dynamic short video clip. The Image to Video mode brings your visuals to life using powerful AI models and a prompt.

Tip:

Want to create videos using just a prompt—no images needed? Take a look at our guide to the Text to Video mode in the Video Generator!

Step 1. Choose the Mode and Model

First, open our Video Generator and select the Image to Video mode. In this mode, you generate clips with a still image and a text prompt:

  • the image will become the first frame of your video (except for Hailuo MiniMax 01 Subject model, where the image is a reference for how the character in the video should look)

  • the text will guide the rest of the animation.

Then, pick from our model line-up (or click on one of them below to go to the Video Generator with it already selected):

Note:

Check out our Video Generator models guide to learn the differences between different solutions regarding resolution, clip length, and more.

Step 2. Write a Prompt

This is where you describe the video you want to create. Be as clear and descriptive as possible. Here are some tips:

  • Be specific: instead of "a dog," try "a golden retriever puppy playing with a red ball in a sunny park."

  • Describe:

    • the subject (e.g., "a woman", "a dog")

    • actions (e.g., "running," "jumping," "smiling," "exploding")

    • the environment (e.g., "a bustling city street," "a quiet forest," "a spaceship cockpit")

    • the camera movements (e.g., "the camera trucks to the left, following a cyclist speeding down the road")

    • the mood (e.g., "happy," "sad," "mysterious," "exciting," "peaceful").

    • lighting (e.g., "bright sunlight," "dimly lit room," "neon lights," "soft, diffused light").

Step 3. Upload an Image

Upload the first frame image—this will serve as the visual starting point for your video. If you're using Runway Gen-3 Turbo or Kling 1.6 Pro, you can also upload a last frame image to define the ending shot.

Upload an image from your device, or choose a picture from your getimg.ai Gallery.

Step 4. Set the Parameters and (Optionally) Create Soundtrack

Adjust clip length, quality, and aspect ratio to your liking (the exact parameters you can choose from depend on the model you selected).

Regardless of the model you choose, you can automatically generate a soundtrack for your video. To do so, simply check the box next to "Generate soundtrack."

The audio will be created based on the generated video content and your prompt, providing a fitting musical accompaniment to the events in the clip.

Step 5. Generate a Video

Click the "Generate video" button and wait for the generation process to finish. Once it’s complete, you can download the video to your device.

That's it! You're now ready to start creating your own amazing short videos from images. Have fun, and let your creativity flow!
