Guide to Elements

Learn how to create, use, and manage Elements in getimg.ai to keep people, products, and styles consistent across AI images and videos.

Elements let you save a person, product, style, or other visual concept once and reuse it in any prompt by typing @ElementName. They work in both image and video generation, so the same character, product, or look can carry across your stills and your clips.

What Are Elements in getimg.ai?

Elements are reusable references you build from images. They help the AI recognize and consistently recreate specific people, objects, styles, and visual concepts.

They are a faster, simpler alternative to training a custom model. Instead of uploading the same reference images every time, you upload them once, name the Element, and mention it in prompts using @ElementName.

The AI understands that the Element stands for a specific person, object, style, or visual concept and takes it into account when it generates or edits an image, or generates a video.

Simple Example

You create an Element from photos of yourself and name it Me. Later, you use it in prompts like these:

  • A candid photo of @Me at the park (image)
  • @Me walking through the park at golden hour, slow tracking shot (video)

The AI already knows who Me is and builds both results from your uploaded photos.

Where Can You Use Elements?

Elements are used directly in the prompt box. As long as an Element exists in your account, you can add it to a prompt in either of these places:

  • Create image: every image generation and image editing prompt in the getimg.ai app.
  • Create video: prompts for video models that accept reference images, such as Seedance 2.5, Kling O3, Google Veo 3.1, and Wan 3.0.
Note:

Video models that only take a first frame (or a first and last frame) do not use Elements. To bring an Element into a video, pick a model that supports reference images. Our Guide to Video References explains how reference images work in video.

How to Create an Element

Step 1: Open the Elements Panel

  • Log into getimg.ai.
  • Click Elements in the sidebar.
  • Press the Create Element button.

Step 2: Upload Images

Elements are always built from images, even when you plan to use them in videos. You can add images in three ways:

  • Click the Add images box (or the Upload button) and upload files from your device
  • Drag and drop images directly into the box
  • Click Select to choose images from your getimg.ai gallery.

You can upload up to 20 images per Element.

Image Quality Tips

  • Upload more than one image
  • Show the subject clearly
  • Use different angles where relevant (this matters even more for video, where the subject turns and moves)
  • Avoid mixing unrelated subjects.

If you accidentally add an image you do not want, hover over it and click the trash icon in the top right corner.

Step 3: Name Your Element

Enter a name in the Name field. This is the name you will use in prompts, so choose something that is:

  • Easy to remember
  • Clear about what the Element represents
  • Short enough to type comfortably.

Examples: Me, StudioLamp, BrandColors, CozyBedroom.

You do not need to include the @ symbol in the name. It is added automatically.

Step 4: Choose the Right Element Type

Choosing the correct type helps the AI understand how your Element should be used. Every type works in both image and video generation.

  • Person (a specific individual, e.g., yourself; avoid mixing different people in one Element)
  • Style (stylized, e.g., anime or cartoon, or photorealistic)
  • Product (e.g., cosmetics, electronics; optimized for clean backgrounds, marketing visuals, and consistent product presentation)
  • Object (props, decorative items, etc.)
  • Place (e.g., a specific room or garden)
  • Clothing (a full outfit or one specific piece)
  • Pose (all uploaded images should show the same or a very similar pose)
  • Sketch (e.g., pencil sketches, rough line art)
  • Color Palette (great for keeping brand colors consistent)
  • Texture (e.g., leather, linen fabric, a specific wood grain)
  • Lighting (replicate specific lighting conditions, e.g., neon night lighting)
  • Composition (layouts and framing)
  • Animal (e.g., a specific cat or dog).

Step 5: Add Instructions (Optional)

The Instructions field lets you add extra context about how the Element should be used. Good instructions focus on constraints, exclusions, or intent, e.g., “this character should never have tattoos”.

Step 6: Create the Element

When everything is ready, click Create Element. Your Element will be processed and available shortly.

Best Practices for High-Quality Elements

  • Keep images focused on your subject
  • Do not mix multiple subjects in one Element. If something feels too broad, split it into several Elements (e.g., separate Elements for different poses or styles)
  • High-quality inputs lead to better outputs.

How to Use an Element in a Prompt

Using an Element means referencing it in your prompt so the AI knows exactly which subject, style, or visual concept you mean. It works the same way in Create image and Create video. There are two ways to add one.

Method 1: Type the Element Name

Type @ followed by the name anywhere in your prompt. Examples:

  • @Me sitting in a café, natural light
  • A product photo of @MyPerfume on a marble table
  • @MyPerfume slowly rotating on a marble table, soft studio light, camera pushes in.

The Element does not need to be at the beginning or end of the prompt. Place it wherever it makes sense in the sentence. As you type, an autocomplete list of your Elements appears, and you can click one to insert it.

Method 2: Use the Elements Button

  • Click the Elements button inside the prompt box, to the left of the Reference button.
  • Browse your Elements, or use the search bar to find a specific one.
  • Click an Element to add it to your prompt.

Each Element shows a small thumbnail to help you recognize it quickly.

Using Multiple Elements Together

You can use more than one Element in a single prompt to combine subjects, styles, and settings. Examples:

  • @Me holding @MyCat
  • A portrait of @Me in the style of @FilmPhotography
  • @Me and @MyCat walking through @CozyBedroom, handheld camera.

Using Elements With Reference Images

Elements and reference images can be used together. Use an Element for the recurring subject and a reference image for one-off guidance, like a pose or setting for a single generation. See the Guide to Image References and the Guide to Video References for how references work.

Example:

Use a Person Element for a recurring character across a series of images and short clips, and a reference image to set the location for one specific shot.

Removing an Element From a Prompt

Removing an Element from a prompt does not delete it from your account. Click the small x next to the Element name, or place your cursor next to it and press backspace.

How to Edit an Element

Editing lets you improve an Element without starting over. Changes apply to all future image and video generations.

  1. Open Elements in the getimg.ai app sidebar.
  2. Find the Element you want to edit.
  3. Click the three dots in the top right corner of its card.
  4. Select Edit.

Editing Images

  • To add images, click the empty square with the + icon or the Upload button, or press Select to pick images from your getimg.ai gallery.
  • To remove an image, hover over it and click the trash icon in the top right corner.
Tip:

If your results feel inconsistent, replacing or removing weaker images often helps more than adding more.

Editing the Name, Type, and Instructions

  • Name: rename an Element to keep similar Elements apart or to standardize naming. You will need to use the new name in future prompts.
  • Type: change it if your original choice no longer fits how you use the Element.
  • Instructions: add exclusions, clarify the intended context, or limit where the Element appears.

When you are done, click Save changes. The updated Element is available immediately.

How to Delete an Element

Deleting an Element permanently removes the Element and all images uploaded for it. Images you selected from your getimg.ai gallery stay in the gallery. This cannot be undone.

  1. Open Elements in the getimg.ai app sidebar.
  2. Find the Element you want to remove.
  3. Click the three dots in the top right corner.
  4. Select Delete and confirm.

After deletion, the Element is no longer available in prompts. Images and videos you already made with it stay unchanged.
