Guide to Image Generation Basics
Learn how to create images in getimg.ai using simple prompts, optional references, and a few quick settings, no experience needed.
Step 1. Write a prompt
Log into getimg.ai, click "Image" in the sidebar, and open Create image Action.
At the bottom, you’ll see the prompt box: that’s where all your image creation starts.
Describe what you want to generate.
Examples:
- black & white portrait photo of a man in a tuxedo, chiaroscuro lighting
- fantasy landscape with waterfalls and glowing plants
- oil painting of a girl picking flowers.
Thanks to our smart prompt enhancement feature, even short, casual prompts produce detailed, high-quality results.
But if you need something very specific, just say it. Enhancement only fills in gaps, it doesn’t override your instructions.

Step 2. (Optional) Add References or Elements
References help match a face, style, object, mood, or location for a single image.
If you plan to reuse the same person, product, or style across multiple images, Elements are a better option. Elements let you define something once and reuse it without attaching reference images each time.
Adding Reference images
To add Reference images:
- Click the “Reference” icon in the prompt box, then pick from existing images, or upload a new image.
- Drag and drop an image from the gallery into the prompt box.
You can attach up to 10 references. They’ll appear as thumbnails above the prompt: hover over them and click X to remove any if necessary.

Using Elements
Elements are reusable visual concepts like people, products, or styles.
Once you create an Element, you can add it to your prompt by typing @ElementName or selecting it from the Elements button in the prompt box.

Step 3. Choose basic settings
In the prompt box, you can set:
- Aspect ratio: 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 3:4, 4:3, 4:5
- Images per batch: 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16.
Each image in a batch is slightly different. getimg.ai varies the prompt subtly for more variety.
By default, the model button in the bottom-left of the prompt box shows Auto. Auto picks the best model and keeps prompt enhancement on — we recommend sticking with it.
If you’d like to pick a specific model or turn prompt enhancement off, click that button to open the model menu and make your selection. On models that support it, a quality switch also appears next to the aspect ratio.

Step 4. Generate
Click the arrow in the prompt box to start generating your images.
While they’re being created, you can queue the next batch right away.
If you have a folder open when starting a generation, new images will save there automatically.
Once your images are ready:
- Hover over one to like, delete, download, recreate, or use as reference
- Click an image for full view, where you can:
🟣 Copy the original or enhanced prompt
🟣 Add it to a folder
🟣 Edit it using the prompt box below the image
🟣 View details such as creator name, size, and creation date.
That’s it! Start simple, experiment a little, and see how fast your ideas turn into great results.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. You can write short, casual descriptions (e.g., “oil painting of a girl picking flowers”) because getimg.ai uses smart prompt enhancement. This feature automatically fills in visual details like lighting and texture to create high-quality results. If you need specific details included, write them down: the enhancement fills gaps but doesn’t override your instructions.
You can choose to generate a batch of 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 images in a single click. When generating a batch, the AI varies the prompt slightly for each image, giving you a variety of results to choose from.
Open the folder you want to use (folder icon in the gallery toolbar, top right corner) before you start generating. Any images you create while that folder is open will be saved there automatically.
Auto is the default. It automatically picks the best model for your prompt and keeps prompt enhancement on. We recommend it for most generations. If you want more control, click the Auto / model name button in the bottom-left of the prompt box to choose a specific model and toggle prompt enhancement on or off. On models that support it, a quality switch also appears next to the aspect ratio.
You can attach up to 10 reference images to a single generation. These references help guide the AI to match a specific face, artistic style, object, mood, or location in your final result.
Yes. Once your images appear, click one to open the Full View. From there, you’ll see a prompt box below the image where you can type instructions to edit or refine that specific result.
